Abstract:

The aim of this volume is to provide a series of selected papers dealing with advances in disciplines contributing to sustainable development, such as planning, architecture, engineering, policy making, environmental sciences and economics, to identify solutions to the challenges posed by sustainable development.

The papers are written by researchers and practitioners from many different countries to provide an opportunity for experience and potential solutions to common problems to be shared. It is clear that the challenge of achieving a more sustainable development pathway requires both new knowledge and the wider uptake of existing knowledge, polices and technologies. It is also essential that sustainability is built into urban development plans as the world’s population becomes increasingly urbanised and a wide range of social and environmental problems occur. This is a particularly important knowledge exchange role for the conference as the world’s population becomes increasingly urbanised with a wide range of social and environmental problems associated with urbanisation if sustainability is not built into urban development plans.

The Editors wish to thank the authors for their contributions and to acknowledge the assistance of the eminent members of the reviewing committee for their support.
