The contribution of electric/electronic components and systems in current societal challenges – including energy transition – are well known. This is visible through the dynamism of electrical engineering research laboratories. The scientific and technical issues addressed today are directed towards the following main topic: analysis of new components for the conversion and transportation of energy, environmental impact analysis of components and systems and design (taking into account those impacts in a life-cycle approach) and, finally, the study of efficient, reliable, compact and integrated energy production and recovery systems including global optimization approaches. This issue of EJEE addresses these issues by presenting several studies and scientific results in these areas.
