Abstract:

In this paper, we present an algorithm of absolute localisation for mobile robots moving in a structured indoor environment. Its interest lies in the capacity to initialise the position of the robot without preliminary knowledge or its position. The robot knows a 2D model of the environment and goniometric measurements of natural landmarks, obtained using the visual omnidirectional sensor SYCLOP. The landmarks correspond to vertical parts of the environment. The matching of the data is based on the use of a geometrical invariant: the cross-ratio. This approach requires models in the environment and makes it possible to reduce significantly the combinatory, which makes its use realistic in the context of mobile robots. The validity of the method of localisation is illustrated by experimental results computed using real images resulting from several trajectories carried out by a mobile robot.
